Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

If you want to die of lung cancer in 15 minutes, I would suggest going here! As soon as you walk in to this cloud of smoke dump, you'll immediately want to leave. For some reason, I stayed. The only thing good about this place is the portions. They're big. That is it. Otherwise, prepare yourself for what feels like the flu the entire time you eat. Your body will start to shut down, and then you'll die. HAVE FUN!

Went there for a friend's birthday and not even two steps in, the bouncer kicked my friend out who was not even drinking for being drunk. We tried to explain it to him that he was watching us, but nevertheless this bouncer wasnt changing his mind. Didnt get any food, however, did buy a Nugget Nectar on tap for $7 which i thought was pretty steep. Interior was very smoky, I would not recommend going there if you are sensative to smoke. We were going to try to play longboard, however, it was clear that they do not take care of their board. Overall it was a huge dive, but not in the cool dive bar way.

In all fairness, I have never tried the food. However, I think that is because I've never stuck around for more than 1-2 drinks. This place has been a dive for years and not the fun kind, either. Cleanliness and clientele leave a lot to be desired.

I came here with my Father a few years ago, and the food was pretty good. That is really all I can say about this. The rating says the rest.

This place is completely overpriced. Ten bucks for a domestic pitcher, so you would assume atmosphere is nice but it is far from it. Staff is rude and more concerned about talking to regulars than making new guests feel welcome. Bouncer sits at door and stares at you if you are anywhere near him. I absolutely hate this place! I tried to give it a fair shake, but this place is a complete waste of time. I have been here 3 times now and have had a bad experience everytime.

This place used to be a decent Mexican restaurant, however as of my last visit, aside from the Mexican style building, any reference to their Mexican heritage is gone. The once vast menu of Tex-Mex dishes are gone, replaced by fried potato skins, fried chicken wings, fried chicken tenders, fried mozzarella sticks, fried... Well, you get the picture. Even the chips and salsa that is on the house at most Mexican restaurants costs $3.50 here. The focus of their drink offerings seems to have changed as well- ask for anything other than a glass of beer and the bartender may tell you she's too busy. Seems the place does a large bar business as evidenced by how they still allow smoking throughout- and if that's your thing, by all means have at it- but if you're looking for Mexican food, best to try one of the places a little further down on the Carlisle Pike.

Food's good, drinks are cheap, game's always on, WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT??

I just left from this bar and was here with a few friends. My one friend is female and was naturally talking to a guy. She asked the guy to buy her a drink to which the female bartender responded, "We don't allow that here, our patrons don't make very much and cannot afford to buy others drinks", all this before allowing the guy to make his own decision. Then, the blonde, female bartender continued to lecture my friend on etiquette for "their bar". Now being unaware of these "rules" and apparently not being informed by the bartenders, I had spent nearly $170 on drinks and food between myself and 3 other people. I'm surprised if this was the case that they allowed me to pay for others. I am extremely offended by their lack of a want to accept people who make money. I would not recommend anyone who makes over $20,000/year to visit or buy a drink at this bar based off their assertions. If you make over that, they obviously do not want your business.

Shouldn't there be something Mexican in a Mexican bar and restaurant? Oh yea, an old dusty sombrero behind the bar, how could I forget???? Not one Spanish speaking person on premises, not one Mexican, not one Latino, even the chips were gross! Margaritas were even marginal at best. Even hombres mucho feo. Authentic, no. Good drinks, no. Good service, no. Smokey as can be? Yes, that I will give it for ball yes, at a Mexican place, shouldn't that be soccer. Oh yes, I am a Mexican snob. Oci.

Okay Haven't been here in awhile! Food wasn't bad last time I was here. Didn't like the smell of smoke then! Well it's still reeks of Smoke! You would think that if a place offers a no smoling section they would close it off so people who don't smoke can enjoy their food and smokers can enjoy thier smoke! Now for the review that comment about enjoying my food I shouldn't have put in the food to put it mildly sucked! For starters they give you homade tortillas actually not bad the salsa they provided I swear in my 40 yrs working food service I never had anyone anywhere ever make their salsa out of ketchup or water it down with ketchup but this place has done just that! Moving on I was playing it safe wasn't overly hungry so I figured the Santa Fe Wrap sounded good it had all the ingredients to make it good at least on the menu. The meat was supposed to be Tenderloin toughest tender loin ever and overcooked, add on some sort of spanish rice concotion also tasted like it was preped with ketchup a few onions and peppers and load in the cheese and give it a burnt flaor not sure what they burnt whether it was the steak or the sauce or they burned it all together. My wife had a chimachanga to make a long story short they put some sort of flavorless white sauce on it and she said the whole thing was tasteless and she left half of it there. I was really really trying to give this a second star because the beer was cold the waitress was very friendly and my wife enjoyed the Magaritas I think because the food was terrible. One star is it for the service and the alcohol. Last time here unless they clean up their act! I highly doubt it will happen anytime soon!

At one point, this was an incredible Mexican Restaurant ... now everything is not "hand made" - but fried from frozen ware. The restaurant had a GREAT family atmosphere, however the owner, now charged with his 5th D.U.I. .. and in trouble with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, has decided to make it a smoking bar only ... under 18 not allowed. The prices of both drinks and food have increased by some 20%, and is is turning into a DUMP! There was a stabbing in the parking lot recently, and noise complaints through Camp Hill's police department abound. Drugs are being sold on the premises, and I certainly will not return as a customer. I frequented this restaurant weekly in the past, but it is no longer a restaurant. Just a "smokey bar!"

The wings here are amazing. Best in the area. Yeah I said it. Worth the trip. Ask for the "Twang" sauce. It's off menu. You're welcome.

If you are looking for GREAT mexican food this is the place to go! The burrito's are YUMMY!! I make a special trip for them. The service is beyond excellent and Marty the manager goes out of his way to make you feel special. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The portions are always generous.. and the service is ALWAYS with a smile. Great Mexican Restaurant on the Pike!

Like Chuck R. said....it's a great neighborhood bar. To say you go there for food? Well...I wouldn't say that. I had the Beef Chimichanga....which was sliced into 4 sections....and had plenty of rice/beans/lettuce with cheese and sour cream floating around on it. No shortage of food on the plate. Was it good? Better than Taco Bell for sure....but being a Mexican food professional (12 years living in Dallas), I know good Mexican food....and this was OK, not good, certainly not great. The service was EXCELLENT! I would come back based on that alone. I was never needing a refill on my iced tea, and I never asked them to do it. We were constantly checked on to make sure things were good. They have PLENTY of flat screen TV's around the bar. Where I was, over near the jail seats....was my team playing....and I didn't even have to ask. Very cool!

Used to come here all the time. Now they changed it to a complete bar and its all smoking.. Guess I can't eat here anymore. Sign still says a restaurant but its just a bar now. A smoke filled bar... That you can hardly breath.

We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I had a restaurant.com certificate to use. I can only comment on the food as we did not experience the bar scene that exists here. I guess they have a smoking section because the place did reek of cigarettes. The chips and salsa were very disappointing and gross. The 'chips' are some kind of deep fried flour tortilla. Definitely skip this. I ordered the Tres Combo- decent enough, not quite what I would call authentic Mexican flavors. My BF ordered the burrito with a chile relleno on top. He seemed to like his food. Both plates had good portions and it was plenty for us. The server was efficient and the food came out really quickly. I think we are going to have to try someplace else to get good Mexican food.....

Two thumbs down. I want to like this place, but I just can't bring myself to like it. The best thing I can say about it is that it is less of a meat market than it was 10 years ago - or at least there's an older crowd. However, my single friends can confirm that on a crowded night you might still get your ass grabbed by some jerk at the bar. This is totally bland, dumbed-down, Americanized Tex-Mex stuff. (With my sincerest apologies to real Tex-Mex which is an amazing amalgamation of two cultures, resplendent with charred, roasted peppers, crumbly piquant cheese, and a wonderful mix of colorful beans). Their salsa tastes like it comes from a jar (or can). Their chips taste like fried wontons. Their margaritas have an artificial taste - and the smell reminds me of bathroom cleaner. You can get much better Mexican food out of your grocer's freezer. I even hesitate to call this Mexican food. It's more like bar food or a chain restaurant like Applebee's (with my sincerest apologies to Applebee's which I actually like to eat at occasionally). I'm trying to think of something on the menu that I can whole-heartedly recommend . . . I'm thinking . . . I'm thinking . . . I'm still thinking . . . wait . . . I think I've thought of something . . . yes. . . I can make a suggestion . . . have a drink at the bar, keep your ass covered, and eat somewhere else. The only people that I have spoken to that admit to liking it are smokers - you do the analysis on that one.

The first time I went to Sierra Madre on a Saturday night I was wondering what sort of dive i was being dragged into. From the tightly cramped parking to the skeezer trying to pick me up in the parking lot (granted I was with TWO guys), I was scared to go in. Once I got inside, the vibe totally changed. Sierra Madre is a fun, upbeat alternative to the downtown scene. They play Top 40 and Hip Hop on weekend nights, some people dance, and the drinks are pretty cheap. It's definitely a mixed crowd which I like, and a much slower, more chilled out pace than downtown. Not somewhere I'd go often, but when downtown gets old, it's nice to know there's a different venue waiting across the bridge.

Not too bad a spot to pickup some drinks and drunk food. Decently priced mixers and bottles as well. Ordered the chicken fajitas and they came out sizzlin and tasty, not the best fajita I've ever ate, but it worked for getting food into me. I suppose I was there right as the drinking and night crowd starts pouring in because they turned the lights down and music up. Had to finish my meal and vacate before I had too many people shoving me outta my stool to get the bartenders attention.

First went there years ago... glad to see the food is as good as I remember. Great place to meet friends and have lunch or dinner. Great locale/neighborhood.

This is a smoking bar and people should be aware of that before they enter and then complain. I would not order food here. Good place to hang out with friends and my boyfriend and I love it. Bartenders know what we want to drink and then check on us every once and a while. Good service and fun times,

I hate writing bad reviews, but my favorite part of my eating here was leaving. It's not really a Mexican restaurant, it's more like a Mexican themed American style sports bar, complete with pool table, copious televisions, and country music. The air smelled vile, nearly everyone at the bar had a cigarette yet there was no ventilation system, at least no working one. The staff was nice... when they were present. Getting served and getting the check took what felt like eons. I think the servers were drinking, and though not visibly drunk, it was frustrating to see play take precedence over work. What put me over the edge was having the lights turned off while we were eating. From what I could tell, a DJ was setting up and wanted the lights turned off for his set, but they didn't check to see if we were finished before flipping the switch. They turned them back on, a testament to the bar tender who saw us, but only after about 7 minutes in the dark. We were given an off-hand excuse from our inattentive waitress that they thought we were done. The food is OK, it's not exciting or spicy, even though we ordered the spicy options, but it was... food.

When I first pulled into the parking lot I had no clue this place was in fact just a bar. It wasn't busy since it was a Tuesday night so the smokiness was at a minimum. We sat at a table which was helpful too. The drinks were cheap and made well. The food was surprisingly delicious. I order the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. My date ordered chicken enchiladas as well but added a beef taco. Everything looked and tasted great. If it wasn't a smoky bar I would've given it a better rating. If you want cheap Mexican food that taste good I would say come here and order take out.

It's getting harder and harder to find decent potato skins, but I really like Sierra Madres. They're nothing out of the ordinary, but aren't as overcooked as some of the chain restaurants. I'm also a big fan of the nachos, which you can get on corn chips (regular tortilla chips) or tortilla chips, which taste like a Taco Bell chalupa. They're delicious either way. The takeout service is always quick, and even when you order tacos a la cart they throw in free chips and salsa. Can't beat that!
(4)Harry M.
The food is really, really good. The drinks aren't exactly cheap, and while the game's always on, there's way too much smokiness in the "non-smoking" area. I don't know exactly how they get away with smoking in a restaurant...they must not serve much food. Either way, if you're looking for good Mexican, you'll get that without a doubt. They have the best burritos and nachos in Central Pennsylvania. And that's why I give it three stars. If the food was mediocre, I'd give it two. If they get rid of smoking, I'd give it a four.
